I’m a senior undergraduate student at the University of California, Irvine. I’m expecting a B.S., Informatics in June 2010.
As my alter ego, Samuel J. Kaufman, I’ve worked on the Nomatic*IM and quub systems, studied instant messaging and status communication, and developed and run a technology summer camp for middle-school girls. Selected publications:
- G Marcu, SJ Kaufman, JK Lee, RW Black, P Dourish, GR Hayes and DJ Richardson. “Design and evaluation of a computer science and engineering course for middle school girls.” Accepted to SIGCSE 2010. Milwaukee, WI. March 2010.
- DJ Patterson, C Baker, X Ding, SJ Kaufman, K Liu and A Zaldivar. “Online everywhere: evolving mobile instant messaging practices.” UbiComp 2008. Seoul, South Korea. September 2008.
- DJ Patterson, X Ding, SJ Kaufman, K Liu and A Zaldivar. “An ecosystem for learning and using sensor-driven status messages.” IEEE Pervasive Computing, vol. 8, no. 4, pp. 42–49. October–December, 2009.
I’m working, with James A. Jones, on something I semi-facetiously call automatic programming. Or automatic programming with reuse-informed search. The prototype system is named Mendel.
